As Good As Warm Peach Cobbler
AHHHH… warm peaches covered in cinnamon and butter with a perfect crust topped with Bluebell homemade vanilla ice cream. you can’t get much better than that! Ask my 6 year old grandson and he will tell you about it.
But here is a thought I have never thought of until now:
Have you ever considered that the majestic, sovereign God of all creation, worshipped endlessly by millions of angels, might enjoy hearing our heartfelt prayers as much as we love a bowl of bubbling hot, homemade peach cobbler, topped with melting vanilla ice cream?
Maybe even more!
And what if the mighty warrior angels, humble messengers of the Creator, eagerly anticipate their next assignment with the same anticipation as a good ol’ dog waiting for a treat after a good walk?
Could it really be that such joy fills the courts of heaven when we pray? When we turn our hearts toward the One who created us?
I think I can understand just a glimpse of that heavenly bliss.
I feel it every time I see wild mustangs fighting in the wind (when I am out photographing them). Every time a magnificent stallion turns his head and looks straight into my eyes, something unspoken connects with my soul.
When I dip my brush into the paint, and do my best to capture the true essence of the horses, the feeling is almost impossible to describe.
Yet even that is only a whisper of something infinitely greater.
Scripture tells us that Jesus endured the cross "for the joy that was set before Him." (Hebrews 12:2)
Imagine that.
The Creator of the galaxies, knowing the suffering ahead, pressed forward with unwavering determination. What kind of love could make such a sacrifice worth the cost?
Perhaps it was the joy of bringing us into unity with Him. The joy of restoring what was lost. The joy of loving us beyond anything we could ever comprehend…the joy of healing our hearts.
And perhaps, when we whisper a faith-filled prayer, heaven rejoices in ways we cannot yet imagine.
Sweeter than peach cobbler.
More breathtaking than a wild stallion running free.
And more wonderful than words can ever express.
